Brazed Tools - American Carbide Tool Company (ACT)
Brazed Tools Brazed Tools Tipped with tungsten carbide segments, the brazed tools provide a cutting surface with the combined characteristics of compressive strength, extreme hot hardness at high temperatures, and resistance to abrasion, corrosion and thermal shock.
by Kennametal Metal Cutting Pros When it comes to cutting tool selection, machinists have three basic choices: brazed carbide tool bits, indexable tooling with carbide inserts, and solid tools made of carbide or high-speed steel (HSS).
Machining Guide: Reaming Tool Basics - Kennametal
Some cutting tool providers (Kennametal is one) also offer reamers with brazed polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tips; though more expensive than the alternatives, these high-performance tools are ideal for higher volume work in abrasive materials like high silicon aluminum, carbon fiber composites, and certain glass-filled polymers.
Cemented-carbide cutting tools have been in use since the late 1920s and are now ubiquitous in the metalcutting world. Around 1950, tools that accept cemented-carbide inserts became common in metalworking and are still considered a basic necessity.
Angle of HSS turning tool to work | The Hobby-Machinist
HSS tools are shaped and have varying geometries so we need to understand things a bit better to get the best use out of the tool. A HSS turning tool cuts most efficiently when the lead angle of the tool is appropriate for the operation; to really understand this tool angle thing, you have to understand what lead angle is and what it does.

Sharpening Brazed Carbide lathe tooling - The Home Shop
Carbide tooling works quite well for me, and one of my friends who works in a large machine shop in Barrie "gifted" me a dozen brazed carbide cutting tools when they changed from brazed carbide to "inserted carbide" tooling. I have a 6" horizontal shaft tool grinder with two wheels. Both wheels were grey ? as used for grinding ferrous metal.
Fly Cutters are a type of Face Mill that only uses 1 cutting edge using either a hand ground HSS tool or one insert. There are 3 big reasons fly cutters are used: They produce a very fine surface finish–better than most Face Mills. They’re inexpensive relative to Face Mills. Much cheaper to buy one insert than many.
Cutting Tool - Brazed Carbide Cutting Tool Manufacturer
Carbide cutting tools, also known as carbide tipped cutting tools, are a type of cutting tools that are used as metal cutting tools for a wide range of materials on CNC Lathes, Turret lathes, Vertical Turret lathes, Engine lathes and Chuckers. Carbide cutting tools’ edges are of carbide tips which are brazed onto steel bodies.
