There are two types of abrasives: NATURAL and MANUFACTURED. Important natural abrasives, such as emery, corundum, and diamond, are used only in special types of grinding wheels and honing stones. Manufactured or Synthetic Abrasives are now considered superior if not as effective as natural abrasives.
Grinding Wheel Basics
In general terms, the abrasive grit size range for grinding wheels runs between 12 grit for rough grinding operations, such as those found in steel mills, and 220 grit for very fine/precision grinding operations. Again, there is no industry standard, but in general terms: Coarse grits run 12 to 24. Medium grits run 30 to 70.
There are three types of shapes for the diamond cutting wheels: segmented rim, continuous rim, and turbo rim. Segmented rim: With narrow U-shaped slots which improve air flow, dust, and dissipate heat when cutting. Suitable for dry cutting. Use for concrete, reinforced concrete, masonry, natural stone, and cement.

3. Vacuum Abrasive Blasting It is also known as dust free or dustless blasting. The blasting machine is equipped with a blast hose and a suction hose, that both run from the blast tool to a control unit. Vacuum blasting systems collect spent abrasives and removed material by means of a vacuum line and shroud surrounding the blasting nozzle.
