Flap discs offer right angle grinding versatility with a product that can grind and finish in a single operation. The abrasive flaps are adhered to a rigid backing plate. It is the back plate that provides stability during operation with cooler cut, less vibration and smoother finish without gouging.
Used for heavy cleaning and stripping, these discs have an abrasive-embedded nylon mesh construction that gives you more control over sanding pressure. Do's and Don’ts of Flap Discs
Type 27 flap discs should be used at 0°-15° angle and Type 29 flap discs should be used at 15°-25° angle to the workpiece. Do not use flat or on the edge. 2. Guards There is a common misconception that guards are not required when using coated abrasive products. This is simply not true.
These are typically made with 72 flaps that measure between 16mm and 18mm in length and between 22mm and 25mm in width. High density flap discs on the other hand feature 86 flaps or greater, depending on the grit, with each flap measuring between 20mm and 22mm in length, and between 25mm - 27mm in width.
